Question: do these have the tabs that block Japanese games on american consoles or am I able to play them without issue?

Answer: The tabs are not a part of the outer shell, but rather a plate on the inside. When you replace the shell with this kit, you can cut the tabs out yourself and modify it to play Japanese games with this.
